Michelle Payette-DaoustThe Online Book Club , led by Michelle Payette-Daoust, is “the” essential source for great suggestions for your next read. Michelle has added a new theme this winter as she wrestles with the question: “Should I Read It or Watch It?”

As a complement to the Online Book Club, staff will add reading suggestions and articles on what’s happening in the library on the Heart of the Library pages.  For scoops, check out the category “Heard at the Circulation Desk“.

  1. Hello Michelle, Daniel suggested I solicit recommendations from you for a couple of summer reads. I have a couple of weeks vacation coming up and want to get lost in a book or two! I love mysteries and great reads! Love your photo! Angela

  2. Hello Angela,

I almost missed your comment. Be sure to come over to the blog next time (you’re on the home page).
It’s lovely to hear from you!
Mysteries and great reads: my kind of books. 🙂

A good way to find favourites of mine is to look at all the old blog postings.
The book I just finished, which I really enjoyed, is The Lock Artist (great suspense and story) :

Then, there are all the suggestions on our Reading Canada journey:

But few of those are recently published novels (does that make a difference to you?)

If you want something lighter in tone, though both lovely and funny, I recommend The Humans

If you fancy adventures in Egypt, and haven’t yet discovered the intrepid Amelia Peabody, then you have your work cut out for you:

Two of the most magnificent novels I’ve ever read:

    Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

And a lovely little “noir”coming-of-age story:
    Joyland, by Stephen King

    I hope this helps!
