Heard at the Circulation Desk – I am going on vacation. May I borrow for longer?

The Library is ready to help with entertainment for your vacation.  Books, Talking Books and Compact Discs from the Adult and Childrens collections can be borrowed for 6 weeks.  Board games can be borrowed for 3 weeks and are renewable for another 3 weeks.  Just ask for a vacation loan when you come to the Circulation Desk.  If you forget, you can renew online from your patron account or call the Library and choose  Circulation Desk.   Have your Library card on hand. Heard at the Circulation Desk – How do I get involved with the community cookbook?

You may have noticed the posters at the circulation desk about a cookbook.  To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pointe-Claire Library we are collecting family recipes from our members to create a community cookbook.  You can pick up an information package at the circulation desk.  Participants will have a chance to win a gift certificate to a local restaurant and everyone will have an opportunity to purchase a cookbook to enjoy.  The funds raised will be donated to The West Island Palliative Care Residence. Heard at the Circulation Desk – How do the “Fast Reads” work?

At the front of the library facing the loan desk is a shelf with our Fast Read Collection. Heard at the Circulation Desk – Do you have audio books?

Yes!  The Library has an excellent collection of audio books.  We have audio books on CD as well as our digital audio collection on eMedia.  The talking books in the Library can be borrowed for three weeks and are renewable once.  The digital audio books can be borrowed for one or two weeks and are also renewable. Heard at the Circulation Desk – I think I am coming down with a cold so I am going to stay in with a nice cozy mystery!

A cozy mystery is a genre of mystery novel that has likeable characters, no graphic violence or descriptive sex, and no foul language.  There’s a crime of course but often it has already occurred or it is not described in grisly detail.  The Library has a really excellent Detective and Mystery collection.  Here are a few mystery series that fit the ‘cozy’ category:  No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency  by: Alexander McCall Smith.
