Aline, part of the Technical Services team, practices her craft by making documents found on the Library shelves available for use, to be borrowed and enjoyed by patrons.
What are your main responsibilities?
The preparation and the physical processing of all library materials so they can be borrowed.
Once materials are catalogued, they are given to me to prepare. Preparation includes affixing library labels, notes, adding security strips and protecting all materials with various types of coverings (plastic, paper).
Aesthetics play a large role in my work, with regards to the placing of information on items and the creation of colour cover art.
Describe a typical workday?
My priority is to prepare the books and audiovisual materials that have been reserved by users. Once these are completed I prepare the remaining new books, DVDs and Blu-rays. I change their status in our computer system to make them available for loan and take them to the circulation desk so they can be shelved.
